A Record of Hamdeok Beach (Hamdeok Haesuyokjang), a Jeju Jewel Where the Emerald Sea Meets Seoubong Peak

An Exotic First Impression Encountered at Jeju Airport
After landing at Jeju Airport, I drove about 20km east in a rental car. As soon as I rolled down the windows, the salty scent of the sea hit me, and the landscape unfolding before my eyes was truly like a jewel. Located in Hamdeok-ri, Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si, Hamdeok Beach (Hamdeok Haesuyokjang) is the perfect place to start or end your Jeju journey. The entrance, lined with tall palm trees, gives off an exotic vibe, making you feel as if you have arrived in a distant southern country.
The emerald-colored sea, transparent enough to see the end of the white sandy beach, immediately proves why this place is considered one of the three most beautiful beaches in Jeju. Soft sand tickles between your toes, and white waves endlessly roll in and disappear right before your eyes. Thanks to the shallow depth, it is also perfect for families with young children to enjoy playing in the water. If you stand still, focusing on the sound of the waves, the complex noise of the city is soon washed away.
The Feeling of Walking on the Sea: The Western Cloud Bridge and Night Walks
The highlight of Hamdeok Beach is the cloud bridge (suspension bridge) located on the west side of the beach. Standing on the bridge, you can feel a unique sense of liberation, as if you are walking across the middle of the sea. The transparent waves rippling beneath your feet are so clear that you can even clearly see the movement of fish and seaweed. While the scenery here is excellent during the day, it shows a different side when night falls.
The illuminated beach trail is perfect for enjoying the atmosphere of the night sea. Especially during the summer night opening period, you can enjoy the sea until late at night while feeling the cool night breeze. Spending time sitting on the grass with someone precious, with the sound of the waves as background music, remains the most peaceful memory of this trip.
The Four Seasons of Hamdeok Seen from Seoubong Peak
Seoubong (Seoubong Peak), which stands tall right next to the beach, is the final touch that completes the landscape of Hamdeok. In spring, yellow canola flowers bloom to present a picturesque view, and in summer, the fresh green color adds vitality. If you walk along the Seoubong (Seoubong Peak) trail with a light heart, a quite spectacular view awaits. Looking down from near the summit, you can see the panoramic view of Hamdeok, where the emerald sea and white sandy beach harmonize at a glance.
On particularly clear days, you can even see the majestic Hallasan Mountain in the distance and the layers of Oreums (volcanic cones) to the east. The sea seen from the beach is beautiful, but the sea of Jeju viewed from a slightly higher place gives a much more three-dimensional and overwhelming impression. These jewel-like landscapes, which I met by chance while walking along the Jeju Olle Trail Route 19, never disappoint, no matter when you visit. I plan to visit again on my next Jeju trip to capture the same place with the landscape changed only by the season.
