The wind in Jeju becomes much gentler once September arrives. Looking at the transparent, emerald-colored water of Hamdeok Beach (Hamdeok Haesuyokjang) makes you feel refreshed down to your core. From September 5th to 7th this year, a special time will unfold right here in Hamdeok. It is the '2025 Jeju Leisure & Healing Festival.' The idea of a festival that blends music, leisure, and a heart for the Earth against the backdrop of a beach filled with the scent of the sea makes my heart flutter.

After setting my destination to 525, Johamhaean-ro, Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si, I arrived at Hamdeok, which felt much more vibrant and energetic than usual. By day, you can feel the waves with your whole body on a kayak or paddleboard, and as the sun begins to set, the sweet melodies of the sunset concert mix with the sound of the waves to tickle your ears. This festival is more than just something to watch. By cutting through the water yourself or adding a small touch for the Earth at the workshops, you feel a deeper connection to the nature of Jeju.

This festival is filled with colorful activities throughout all three days. I imagine the drone light show that will spread across the dark sky on the first night. When countless lights decorate the sea, the faces of the people sitting on the beach watching the scene will surely be filled with awe. The 10 types of leisure sports programs held during the festival period are perfect for enjoying the sea at Hamdeok. As you enjoy kayaking or frescobol, you'll discover the charm of late summer where even beads of sweat feel refreshing.

From the opening concert to the water-war performance and the closing fireworks show that will mark the grand finale on the last day, every festival program comes alive against the scenery of Hamdeok. In particular, contents like the 'Earth-Loving Workshop' and the 'Carbon Neutral Stamp Rally' contain warm considerations that go beyond just having fun, making us think once again about how to protect this beautiful island, Jeju, that we love.

Friendly Tips to Enjoy Hamdeok to the Fullest

Comfortable attire is best when heading to the festival grounds. Since you'll be moving between the sandy beach and the grass, pack light sandals or sneakers. Jeju in September is still hot during the day, so a thin outer layer and sunglasses are essential. The festival runs from the afternoon until night, and I personally hope you don't miss the scenery at sunset. A performance set against the backdrop of the red sun dipping behind Seoubong Peak will surely be the most memorable scene of your festival trip.

There are plenty of cafes and restaurants around Hamdeok, making it great for a leisurely stroll before or after the festival. Since the venue is located in the center of Jocheon-eup, using public transportation is not difficult. If you take a bus from Jeju-si and get off at the Hamdeok Beach (Hamdeok Haesuyokjang) bus stop, you will find the festival grounds right in front of your eyes. In early September, a trip to Hamdeok, where the sounds of the sea, the melodies of music, and the laughter of people mingle, will surely provide a warm comfort to your weary daily life.
