The 'Gyeongsan Jujube Festival & Agricultural Fair,' now in its 14th year, was more than just a place to sell agricultural products; it was a festival where one could fully experience the abundant autumn of Gyeongsan.

As soon as I arrived at the festival site near 100 Nammae-ro, Gyeongsan-si, the vibrant red color of the jujubes hanging in clusters caught my eye. True to its reputation for producing 30% of the nation's jujubes, the fruits here were large, glossy, and looked sweet just by sight. Popping one into my mouth, the crunchy texture and the essence of autumn were instantly felt. Perhaps because they ripened after enduring the stinging autumn sun, the sweetness felt particularly profound.

The Joy of the Festival, Awakening the Five Senses

True to the festival's theme, 'Yadanbeopseok Gyeongsan-rak (A vibrant and exciting Gyeongsan),' the site was full of lively energy. Even the noise of the festival felt heartwarming, and the exhilarating sound of Nongak (traditional Korean farmers' music) heard from all corners naturally quickened my pace. Perhaps because the National Nongak Festival was held concurrently, the excitement of our traditional melodies filled the festival air.

It wasn't just about looking at jujubes; the various processed products made from jujubes also caught my attention. From jujube chips to jujube tea and fermented jujube beverages, the fun of tasting each heart-filled treat made by local farmers was delightful. Walking through the festival grounds that stimulate the five senses, I once again realized the true meaning of the abundance this season brings.

Practical Travel Tips to Fully Enjoy Autumn in Gyeongsan

For those planning to visit the festival, I would like to share a few tips. First, try visiting in the afternoon when the sunlight softens rather than in the morning. The autumn sky around the festival site creates a perfect backdrop for taking photos. As for parking, move calmly according to the guidance provided near the site; since the area around the venue can be crowded, it is better to move with plenty of time to spare.

Beyond jujubes, Gyeongsan hides many places where you can feel the autumn vibe. If you take a stroll along trails like Nammaeji (Lake Nammae), located a short distance from the festival, your trip will be even more fulfilling. It is the perfect course to slowly reflect on the exciting memories from the festival while walking along the calm lake. Next October, when the jujubes are turning red once again, I think I will be missing the warm scenery of Gyeongsan.
