The sound of waves heard as soon as I got out of the car seemed to wash away the noise of the city at once.

While this place is famous for its beaches filled with the heat of summer, Naksan(낙산) on a quiet weekday morning shows a completely different charm. As you walk slowly along the endless sandy beach, the feeling of the cold East Sea(동해) touching your toes feels truly refreshing. The sunlight shining through the dense pine forest was like a watercolor painting drawn by nature, so I was too busy keeping the scenery in my eyes rather than pressing the camera shutter throughout the walk.

A place that can never be left out of a trip to Naksan Provincial Park(낙산도립공원) is Naksansa(낙산사) Temple. Known as one of the Gwandong Palgyeong(관동팔경, Eight Scenic Views of Gwandong), this place has the power to make your heart solemn from the entrance. A temple precariously perched on a coastal cliff—I was momentarily speechless at the overwhelming scenery when I first encountered it. The old pine trees that curved and rose among the bizarre rocks embodied the traces of time, exuding a noble elegance.

Walking through the temple grounds, you can feel the deep fragrance of Buddhist culture, but above all, the panorama of the East Sea(동해) looking down from high up is truly exceptional. Looking at the Buddha statue standing toward the sea while feeling the salty wind, I felt my complicated mind gradually emptying. Those who plan to visit, please make sure to bring comfortable sneakers. Since the temple is quite large with many slopes, your steps need to be light to enjoy every corner fully.

As a tourist destination, Naksan Provincial Park(낙산도립공원) has a much more convenient environment than expected. Personally, I highly recommend visiting near Naksansa(낙산사) at sunrise. The sight of the red sun rising from the East Sea(동해) and coloring the temple eaves and the sea will be an unforgettable scene for a lifetime. Recently, tourism facilities have been continuously maintained, making it a great place for families or couples to stay comfortably. On my way back after feeling the rough yet gentle sea of Yangyang(양양) with my whole body, it was a trip that filled a corner of my heart with a handful of wave sounds.
